Western Connecticut State University hosted the 2006 Regional Championships for the CEDA East region and the qualifiers for entry into the National Debate Tournament (NDT) at Northwestern. In the district debates, each round featured two judges and teams were ranked at the end by the number of judge's ballots they had won. The top five teams would qualify for the NDT. Buddy Khan and Ben Wittwer qualified for the NDT, marking Buddy's second NDT bid in as many years of college debate, and novices Ryan Bach and Iskra Miralem, after obtaining valuable experience in their first Open tournament at Binghamton, reached semis in another solid performance. The novice division also featured a partial "maverick" performance from Ally Beiber, who ended up debating solo for three of her rounds (and winning two of them!), while her partner Phil Stratigiz dealt with an illness.
