Rochester sent a squad of ten teams to the annual debate tournament at SUNY Binghamton. The UR contingent featured four students competing in their first tournament, while several experienced debaters who had been absent during the last regional tournament returned to competition. Members of the UR squad won speaker awards in all three divisions, and teams from Rochester lasted at least as far as the semi-finals in each division. The reunited team of Buddy Khan and Ben Wittwer won the Open division, defeating Cornell University on a thrilling 2-1 decision in the final round.
