As the first semester continued, the URDU sent ten teams to the annual tournament at the United States Military Academy. In a rare occurrence, Rochester was only competing in the Novice and Varsity divisions, with no JV teams. Many of the JV eligible debaters moved up a division to face the stronger competition in Varsity, striving to push themselves to the next level. Rochester enjoyed a great deal of success, with UR teams clearing to elimination rounds in both Novice and Varsity, and Buddy Khan won the prestigious West Point top speaker award in the Varsity division.
