Barn Etiquette
You must give at least 24 hours notice to the barn, your driver, and the president when canceling a lesson otherwise you lose that lesson and be fined $15.
Be at your lesson at least ½ hour beforehand so that you have enough time to groom your horse, tack up, and still be on time - this will ensure your lesson is not cut short!
Give yourself ½ hour after your lesson to properly cool your horse down, clean the tack, and put all of the equipment in its appropriate spot.
For your protection you must have footwear with ½” heel for ankle support.
All mounted riders must be wearing an ASTEM/SEI approved helmet during lessons at the farm. Riders need to provide their own helmet by the second semester of lessons.
Horse assignments are on a list in the barn on the white board.
Safety always comes first. If you are uncomfortable working with a horse let someone know.
Brushes are located in the crates in the tack room. You should groom your horse before and after riding.
Hooves should be picked out before and after each ride!
Tack is found in the tack room. Each horse has its own bridle, martingale, and girth. Bridle hooks are labeled with the horse's name.
Riser pads should always be used on the horses and if you have any questions PLEASE ASK!
All horses wear splint boots (especially when jumping).
Do not tighten girth completely until you are ready to get on.
Do not leave a horse unattended in its stall with tack on.
Properly cool the horses after riding. There should never be a saddle or sweat mark left on the horse. If necessary, rinse and towel off and remove the water bucket if the horse is still warm.
You can feed your horse apples or carrots.
Always drive slowly down the driveway!
Make sure that you return everything where and how you found it.
Sweep up after yourself on crossties and/or your horses stall. Leave the barn as you found it or better!
When you walk away from the stall make sure the door is shut and latched or horse is clipped by the halter to the tie in the stall.
Check the white board for more rules and ALWAYS ask questions if you are not sure about something!
Your block of lessons must be used by the end of the semester. They do not carryover into the next semester.
Check the barn's voice mail (585.872.0529) for cancellations due to weather (below 15°F). |
