Peggy Gauger

Peggy was born and raised just outside Rochester, in Webster N.Y. She began riding as a child at the age of 7. "Aaron" was her family's horse, and she rode every day. After selling Aaron she leased a series of horses while competing in Saddle Seat under Windy Hill Stables in Walworth N.Y. After that she then began taking lessons with Micky Way in Penfield N.Y.

Upon graduating high school she bought her own horse, “Worth Waiting For” (Dutch) and rode under Guy Kaplin. While attending M.C.C. to earn her Associates Degree, she competed in the local hunter series, winning many awards. She also attended many clinics with top equestrians, including Mark Gory, Al Hughes, and Missy Clark.

After completing college Peggy worked for Xerox in Webster, which allowed her financially to maintain competing at a high level. In 1992 she began riding with Mark Frohm at Highview Farms in Pittsford N.Y. At this time she competed in the Syracuse P.H.A circuit in the Adult Amateur (3') division and won many championships. As she and Dutch became a stronger team they moved up to the Amateur-Owner Hunters (3'6”), and in 1994 she was Year End Reserve Champion, also qualifying for Zones.

After starting her family in 1995, she decided work and showing was too much. It was then she decided to give up her amateur status and start teaching. What could possibly be a better combo than her LOVE for horses and people all in one!? She also appreciated working part-time so she could be home to raise her son.

Peggy started teaching just a couple kids in a small barn, but within the year her program grew and needed a larger facility with more lesson horses. She then went back to Way Farm, the place she grew up riding, to teach. Her students competed in the Empire State Riding Academy Series, the North Western New York series, and all the way up to the Syracuse P.H.A. level. Just as she had when she competed, many of her students brought home champion ribbons and fun times.

In January 2007, Peggy was offered a job at Engleside Stables, teaching the University of Rochester riding team as well as other clients. As she has said many times, getting to know ALL the new horses and people has been a great joy to her.

When Peggy is not teaching she enjoys rescuing horses from the Fingerlakes race track. She buys them for herself or students and works with them slowly to make them successful show horses. She recently bought her last horse, "Big Ben" (a 17.1 hand gelding) and he is now successfully competing in the Jumpers and Hunters.

Peg currently resides in Ontario , NY , with her husband of 15 years, Dennis, son Jacob and dog Molly. When she can tear herself away from the horses, Peggy enjoys spending time just hanging out with her family and friends.
