Did you know? Approximately 22% of University of Rochester students belong to Greek-letter organizations.
Recruitment is such a special time for our sorority. It is a time where we can strengthen our bonds as sisters,
celebrate in the strong foundation our four founders set before us and share our sisterhood with future Gamma Phi
Betas.
Formal recruitment is the main process the National Panhellenic Conference sororities at University of Rochester use
to recruit new members. Formal Recruitment is conducted over a one week period near the beginning of every spring
semester and consists of four rounds of events that allow potential members the opportunity to learn about each
sorority at University of Rochester as well as what it means to join a sorority. During the recruitment events, women
will have the time to ask questions about sorority activities, financial obligations, new member programs,
scholarship, community service and sorority life in general. If you choose to participate in recruitment, there is no
commitment to join a sorority.
Some Greek-letter organizations continue Informal Recruitment programs throughout the year. Informal Recruitment is a
casual way to meet sisters by means of dinners, ice cream sundae nights, arts and crafts,

and other social events with current sisters. The first round of Informal recruitment takes place in September
of each year and is only open to upperclassmen, so freshmen, if you are interesting in joining a sorority, save your questions and
enthusiasm for the spring semester and try Formal Recruitment. There is also a second round of Informal Recruitment in the two weeks
following Fromal Recruitment in February. As with Formal Recruitment, Informal is a time to learn and ask as many questions as you can,
and there is no commitment in attending any Informal information sessions or parties.
