Spanish and Latino Students' Association

There are things many people do not know about the Spanish & Latino Students' Association. We are a student group that has been in existence since the late 1970s. And as such, we have a rich history here at the University of Rochester. But, despite our longevity, there are things that still need to be cleared up.

Not A Dipping Sauce Nor A Dance Group

Although we do recognize that salsa is both the leading condiment in America, and one of the most renouned dance forms, S.A.L.S.A. at the U of R is an acronym for the Spanish & Latino Students' Association. We are a multicultural student group that uplifts the Latino culture.

"Don't Get Us Wrong Though....We Love to Dance and to Eat!"

S.A.L.S.A. Teaches Diversity

We provide a forum in which all persons can learn to understand the ethnic diversity that exists on our campus. By integrating cultures, we help develop "ethnic literacy" in all students.

S.A.L.S.A. Is For The People

"Power to the People......All People that Is!!!"
We feel that this point is of utmost importance. S.A.L.S.A. is not only for students who identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino. We welcome persons from all backgrounds. We feel it is necessary to incorporate the influences and experiences of other cultures and peoples in order to thrive and be successful.
