Spanish and Latino Students' Association

S.A.L.S.A. OUTREACH

March of Dimes

S.A.L.S.A. is the first university student group in the Rochester area to join forces with the March of Dimes in an effort to help raise awareness and the necessary funds for the prevention of infant death, birth/prenatal complications, and pregnancy/newborn care. The money we donate is allocated between the research, education, and outreach work that, together, gives all babies a fighting chance against the threat to their health and lives. Though we, S.A.L.S.A. may play only a small role, every little bit counts. The March of Dimes has saved the lives of millions of babies over the past 64 years, and we wanted to partake in this just cause, and be a part of an organization that has never given up and will continue their mission until the day comes when every baby is born healthy.

During the fall semester of 2002 we raised over $300 by selling March of Dimes Teddy Bears on campus. Students proved to be very responsive and supportive, and realized that the little they gave helped a child in need. During the spring semester of 2003 we took part in Walk America and raised $100. All proceeds went to the March of Dimes reasearchers for the prevention of premature births. WalkAmerica supports lifesaving research and innovative programs that save babies from prematurity, birth defects and other infant health problems. For the 2003-2004 academic year S.A.L.S.A. will begin our year-long Dime Drive. We hope that our success continues as students all over campus realize the importance of just one life.
