At the 1982 National Convention, the convention body unanimously agreed to adopt Prevent Child Abuse America as Sigma Delta Tau's National Philanthropy.
Prevent Child Abuse America is a voluntary organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse through citizen action.
Each Sigma Delta Tau chapter conducts an annual service project, educational program, or major fund raiser for the benefit of Prevent Child Abuse America.
Together, SDT chapters contribute more than $50,000 each year to their National Philanthropy.
For more information about Prevent Child Abuse America, check out the organization's website: http://www.preventchildabuse.org
The Beta Pi Chapter sponsors two major philanthropic events a year to support Prevent Child Abuse America.
We hold a "Mr. U of R" competition each fall, where ten of UR's
studliest/bravest men compete for the title. Last fall we had over 350 people
in attendance and raised over $1400 for PCAA.
In the spring of 2009, we sponsored a successful Twister Tournament, where teams compete for title and subsequent prizes! We had over 40 participants and raised over $400 dollars for PCAA.

In addition, members of SDT choose to participate in a variety of other philanthropic activities in their free time.
For example, sisters have been involved with The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk,
Stem Cell Awareness Fundraisers, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteering at the local Soup Kitchen, fundraisers for Hillside Family of Agencies and Campfire USA, tutoring programs at Cameron and pen pal programs with terminally ill children.
