About

The purpose of the UR Shotokan Karate Club is to teach traditional Shotokan karate to all interested members of the University community, regardless of gender or level of previous experience. The intercollegiate team is selected from the undergraduate members and represents the University of Rochester in local, regional, and national collegiate competitions.

The Shotokan Karate Club provides regular classes at which students are taught Shotokan karate in a traditional environment. In addition to the physical advantages of training, which include a complete aerobic and anaerobic total body workout, and increased strength and flexibility, karate helps students increase their levels of concentration and spirit as well as helping to develop self-confidence and focus. University of Rochester Shotokan Karate Club (URSKC) belongs to the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF). This affiliation adds opportunity for the students to participate in Collegiate, Regional, National, and international karate competitions. The affiliation also allows us to receive training by some of the best Karate-ka in United States at our clinics and international level karate-ka from all over the world during the ISKF master camp held every summer.
