Western Ontario Invitational

The 2008 Fall racing season opened on September 21st with a first time trip Western Ontario's home regatta in London, Ontario. This was a unique regatta consisting of a mass start 4km head race in the morning followed by a dash in the afternoon. The head race saw all teams in an event line up as in a sprint race, sprint start, and race on an open course with a right bend 2km in.

HWS Challenge on the Canal

The full Men's and Women's teams headed to Geneva, NY on October 4th for a day of head racing. The weather was warm with clear skies and a varying headwind. This was the first time the varsity squads raced this course and the teams put some top finishes together against close competition. Rochester Novice Men's and Women's teams made their debut with a good showing of speed and unscathed boats.

Head of the Charles

The crisp Fall weekend of October 18-19 marked a highlight of this rowing season. The team sent both men's and women's collegiate eights as well as a men's collegiate four. The collegiate four raced on Saturday in chop and cross tailwind. Sunday saw the eights racing through changing winds and significant chop. The tough conditions did not take away from the racing though. Solid performances and great competition marked all of the races. The squads were up near the front of their packs including top 10 finishes with guaranteed entries for next year.

Head of the Schuylkill

The HOSR regatta in Philadelphia was run for the first time in three years teams on October 25th. The weather was not quite severe enough to cancel the regatta as in previous years, but conditions did follow standard Schuylkill conditions. The real test of the day was to best the elements of gusting wind, white-capped water, and heavy rain. Veteran's described the conditions as some of the most severe they had sent boats into. Rising to the occasion, the crew's had solid performances with top finishes in deep fields of boats.

Syracuse Invitational

Syracuse University hosted crews from around the State on their homecourse on November 1st. The unique regatta broke the varsity eights into fours and gave the novices a chance at more intercollegiate eights racing. It was a crisp Fall day with light varying headwind and good overall conditions. The squads finished in the mix for top spots in the State's rowing field. Rochester's head racing comes to a close with this regatta and sends the team into preparation for the Spring's sprint season.
