About
The purpose of the Wado-Ryu Karate Club is to teach traditional Wado-Ryu karate to all interested members of the University community, regardless of gender or level of previous experience. Wado Ryu Karate was founded by Hironori Otsuka (1892-1982). It is now recognized as one of the major styles of karate (along with shotokan, goju-ryu, shito-ryu and kyokushinkai). The word "wado" literally means "the way of peace/harmony". As a style of karate it is lighter than the Shotokan style, from which it was born, incorporating movements and thinking from ju-jutsu and kendo. Our club is affiliated with the Canadian Wado-Ryu Karate Federation (CWKF) -- Wado-Ryu is SA funded -- |
