About:
Founded in 1994, the University of Rochester Water Polo Club continues to maintain a commitment to excellence. We are a club sport under the administration of the Club Sports Council, part of the Department of Athletics & Recreation. Both the men's and women's teams are coached by Seth Sealfon. All UR-affiliated persons are welcome to play, including graduates and undergraduates as well as faculty and staff members. Water polo experience is not necessary to play; all skill levels are welcome; however, the ability to swim comfortably is imperative The coaches and veteran team members will work hard to teach everyone this sport. Students with dedication and commitment are especially welcome.
UR Water Polo competes in the New York Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), an organization of more than 150 collegiate clubs nationwide. The men's team competes in the fall, with the first competition in mid September, the divisional championships in late October and the national championships in early November. The women's season is in the spring, usually from March to April. In addition, both teams are invited to non-league tournaments throughout the academic year.
Lastly, there are a number of water polo players who are also on the UR Varsity Swim Team. Fortunately, the swimming coaches work closely with the water polo program to allow ambitious athletes to compete on both teams and we find that it is often encouraged as a cross-training activity.
